The 28- million trade union organization expressed its solidarity with Elena Zakhozhaya
The Federation Independent Trade Unions of Russia (FNPR) has forwarded letters of protest to the General Director of OAO “Belshina”, Chairperson of “Belneftekhim” Concern and Chairperson of the Bobruisk Town Executive Council in connection with the hunger strike of the electrician Elena Zakhozhaya, protesting against discrimination on the basis of trade union affiliation.
“The unions of with anxiety and deep concern have learnt about discrimination acts undertaken by the management of the OAO “Belshina”against trade union, which made Elena Zakhozhaya, activist of the Belarusian Independent Union (BNP), go on hunger strike,---- is said in the FNPR letter.
The independent national trade union center of Russia has pointed that the restriction of trade union activities is an evidence of brutal violation of international conventions, particularly, Convention # 87 of the ILO on freedom of association, that does not go in line with the position of the Republic of Belarus, which declares about its respect of international norms and rules.
“The Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Russia on behalf of the 28 millions of its members resolutely calls on the state officials and employers to stop the unlawful actions and go over to the constructive dialogue with the BNP. If the confrontation will go on, the entire responsibility, including also a judicial one, will be born by you,--- is stressed in the letter. – We also express our solidarity with Elena Zakhozhaya, voice our support to her actions and admire her firmness and courage!
